This is such an important year for our pupils in Year 6. In this final year at primary school, we will support and encourage them in the learning and activities they undertake, so they continue to develop as ambitious, curious and independent learners, and I know we can count on you to do the same, so that your child will have a happy and productive year.
Being a Year 6 pupil promotes independence and truly is the most memorable time in your child's primary years. It is a time to allow pupils to become aware of who they are as both learners and young adults while building on resilience, collaboration and communication skills that will stay with them lifelong. In Year 6, all pupils are valued as individuals and I am dedicated to motivating them to achieve their best. I know we are going to have lots of fun and exciting experiences in the process and I know that when our pupils leave they are equipped with the necessary skills for this ever-changing world.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school and I will return your call as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
Mr James
This document will hopefully help you when reading with your children. Take time to work through some of these questions and discuss the answers. Remember: It is all well and good being able to read fluently but understanding the text is what really makes reading enjoyable! Your child may be able to read the text well; fluent, accurate, steady pace, with expression. However, do they understand the context of what is happening? Are they able to make connections or make inferences about what the author is trying to convey? 3 or 4 questions either during or after your reading session will improve your child's reading and help them synthesize and evaluate what they have read.
J2E is a fantastic resource that your child has access to through their Hwb accounts. Every day your child will be practicing their times tables and spellings in a guided reading rotation, as well as through daily routines in their literacy and numeracy lessons. Many parents ask how they can best support their child at home. Not only is J2Blast a familiar starting point, it is also fun and engaging that will keep them entertained for hours!
