Please take a look at the groups for your child's reading day below. They will need to bring their book in to school every week. Please take time to read with your child using the Guided reading Questions below to help you.
Your child's PE day is Every Monday. They are participating in gymnastics. Please make sure they wear appropriate clothing on this day.
Your child has been given spellings for the half term that they are currently in. The spelling test will be every Friday. Please see the spelling strategies below to support your child with their spellings.
If your child has been given homework on a Friday, please submit the homework by the following Wednesday.
Each week your child will read with the class teacher. One week will be independent reading, the second week will be as a whole group through guided reading. If your child has completed their reading book, and both parent and teacher are happy for them to move onto their next book, your child has the responsibility to select and look after that reading book. They need to show the teacher before placing it in their bag. The class teacher will make a note of the new book they have chosen to keep a record.

When you read with your child, please use some of these questions - and ones of your own/ more suited to the text they are reading - to challenge their thinking. Your child may be able to read the text well; fluent, accurate, steady pace, with expression. However, do they understand the context of what is happening? Are they able to make connections or make inferences about what the author is trying to convey? 3 or 4 questions either during or after your reading session will improve your child's reading and help them synthesise and evaluate what they have read.
Please go through a variety of spelling strategies with your child to ensure they have multiple ways to spell a word. They may be asked to practice their spellings using a particular strategy week on week. Use these strategies to support you.
J2E is a fantastic resource that your child has access to through their Hwb accounts. Every day your child will be practicing their times tables and spellings in a guided reading rotation, as well as through daily routines in their literacy and numeracy lessons. Many parents ask how they can best support their child at home. Not only is J2Blast a familiar starting point, it is also fun and engaging that will keep them entertained for hours!
Here are some examples of our pupil's hopes and dreams! I'm sure Ambitious Aled would be proud to see these pupils setting such high standards for their future!

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
The best thing about being a Teacher is when I see one of my students display some resilience in their learning. Then, when they have finally grasped the concept, I enjoy looking at their facial expressions as if to say 'I understand now'.
What is your first memory from school?
One of my first memories from school would have to be the Easter parade. When I was 4 or 5 years old, we walked through and around the school with all of our parents standing on the infant yard, clapping all of the children as they walked proudly - and with caution - with their Easter bonnets on their head! Making those papier mache bonnets was extremely fun and I remember the enjoyment I felt as I lapped up everyone’s approval of my bonnet!
What are your must-have smartphone apps?
BBC sport is one of my must-have apps as I like to stay connected to what’s happening in the world of sport! I also could not do without my notes app - I jot down all of my thoughts/ ideas on there so that I don’t forget them!
What would your last meal be?
My last meal would have to be a succulent, delicious beef burger in a brioche bun!
