We have published "Methods for Assessing Learning Progress and Providing Frequent Feedback" (July 9th) in the Online Teaching Guide. This page introduces methods for assessing students' learning progress through frequent feedback and questioning from students, assignments, and quizzes in online classes.
In simultaneous online classes, there is a problem of often proceeding with the class without fully understanding students' learning progress. Therefore, we explained "points to consider when assessing learning progress," "things to be mindful of during class," and "considerations for student fatigue". Additionally, we introduced actual classroom episodes on "comment card collection" and "class improvement examples based on feedback" as an idea for post-class improvements.
It is not easy to monitor students' learning progress in real-time for on-demand classes. Therefore, we explained "points to consider when assessing learning progress," "types, purposes, and characteristics of evaluation," and "methods for frequent assessment of learning progress." We also provided examples of frequent assessment, including "assignment presentations," "mini-report examples and rubric presentations," and "feedback methods" for one class period.
We introduced "how to conduct team activities using Moodle" and "how to conduct language tests" from implementation submitted within the institution. We were able to share know-how that could be useful in implementing online classes by combining Moodle and G suite for teaching, and by devising methods for language tests,
For details on the study group and case studies, please refer to the Online Class Study Group_9_20200722.pdf.
Thank you for participating despite your busy schedule with online class preparations and other matters. We want to thank the teachers who shared their implementation examples.
The "Online Class Implementation Study Group" has ended since April. g in September, we will hold regular "Online Education Workshops" to consider using online tools for education in the "new normal." We will strive to provide information and form a community regarding the state of online education, so we appreciate your continued support.
