Abstract:
High School students throughout the United States are suffering from a myriad of diseases related to
diet. This idea has been addressed through multiple studies, but no study has described this link by combining
specifically “Nutritional Literacy” and “Diet Quality”. United States High school students are of the adolescent
age group and develop many of the habits they will carry with them in life during this time. These students took
the “NLit Assessment” and the “Short Form Food Frequency Questionnaire”, which was analyzed through the
Diet Quality Index, in order to determine the correlation between Nutritional Literacy and Diet Quality. A
multitude of statistical analysis strategies determined that this correlation was not consistent and that there may
be more factors contributing to Diet Quality more heavily. Future research is required to find more factors that
contribute to this correlation, rather than nutritional literacy. More information regarding the importance of diet
health to students may also be necessary.
