Abstract: Energy drinks are a relatively new product that has gained consumers nationwide. Prior research suggests that energy drinks can cause consumers to have both positive and negative side effects: increased alertness, attention, and energy, as well as increasing blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rates (Costantino et al., 2023). However, because of the limited research of energy drinks, a gap in knowledge exists of the effect that energy drink consumption has on the consumers’ academics. The researcher’s study of examining students’ academic behaviors through the use of a 5-Point Likert Scale aims to answer this gap in research. Participants examined were actively enrolled students in a medium sized suburban high school. Participants were instructed to fill out a Google Form, once after each school day, for three days. Questions included the topics of focus levels, working with others, tiredness, engagement, and keeping up with classwork. The researcher’s findings suggest that a positive relationship exists between energy drink consumption and lower levels of tiredness during participants’ school days. This finding suggests that energy drinks may be consumed by students, in moderation, in order for them to feel less tired during school. Healthier energy drink options could be implemented into the researcher’s high school cafe in order for students to combat their tiredness.
