SHOPS & BUSINESSES

49-127 Haverhill Street

Besides shops for furniture, liquors, and cabinets, those walking along Haverhill Street during the late 1800s would find an array of craftsmen, some of which included:

Fitchburg Railroad Company

The Fitchburg Railroad Company’s horse-drawn rail line was originally constructed in 1843 and ran across northern Massachusetts. In the year 1900, the company leased their railroad to the Boston and Maine Railroad Company which brought about changes to the operation of the railroad.

The Rail Station was located on the northwestern side of Beverly Street, Haverhill Street, and Canal Street in Boston, and in the later 1900s, would come to be known as North Station.

During the 1800s and 1900s, the Railroad was located in a heavy industrial area, allowing for easy transport of imports and exports.
