Located in Room 102 Mason Hall, the Writing Center offers free, confidential, one-on-one writing support to all Hofstra students, both online and in person. Our trained staff of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty tutors help writers at any stage in the writing process, including brainstorming ideas, decoding feedback, organizing paragraphs, using evidence, and employing strategies for revision. To schedule an appointment, visit WCOnline at https://hofstra.mywconline.com/. For information about the Writing Center, visit www.hofstra.edu/writingcenter or call 516-463-4908.
Our Approach:
· One-on-One Consultations: Tutors engage students in collaborative, conversation-based sessions.
· Focus on Process: We emphasize the full writing process — brainstorming, drafting, revising — not just fixing grammar.
· Tailored Support: We work with students across disciplines on a variety of writing tasks, from research papers to personal statements.
What We Do in the Writing Center:
· Appointments generally run from 45-50 minutes.
· Students may schedule up to three (3) appointments in one week.
· Appointments can be face to face and asynchronous online.
· All appointments must be made through our WCOnline scheduling system, https://hofstra.mywconline.com/.
· Availability changes from semester to semester, so we advise students to check WCOnline and our website for our current hours.
· We offer asynchronous paper feedback in the evenings.
Preparing for Your Appointment:
· Arrive a few minutes before your session begins.
· Bring any assignment prompts and writing you have completed.
· Bring a laptop, tablet, or notebook to take notes and engage in writing.
· Come prepared with goals for your session.
Schedule early and often! Early sessions can be used to generate content before your writing begins!
