With oversight of the Fitness Center, group exercise classes, intramural sports, club sports, wellness and recreation clubs, and spirit support, the Department of Campus Recreation offers a wide variety of sport activities, fitness programs, and recreational facilities for the entire campus community.
The David S. Mack Fitness Center is equipped with cardio machines, strength training equipment, a weight room/functional training area, an indoor track, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an outdoor fitness circuit, locker rooms (including a gender-inclusive, individual-use locker room), and three studio rooms (cycle, aerobics, and yoga). Students are encouraged to use the Fitness Center to support a healthy and active lifestyle.
Group exercise classes, including cycle, yoga, HIIT (high-intensity interval training), hip-hop dance, and bootcamp, are offered to the Hofstra community at the David S. Mack Fitness Center. Registration is free! Students may RSVP for classes through the Department of Campus Recreation events page on GetInvolvedHU.
The Department of Campus Recreation offers a wide variety of intramural sports and events throughout the year. Members participate in recreational and competitive sports and tournaments in an organized environment. Intramurals are open to everyone of all abilities. Intramural sports include basketball, flag football, floor hockey, soccer, softball, kickball, badminton, pickleball, and volleyball.
The department also supports club sports and wellness and recreation clubs, including badminton, baseball, equestrian, Hofstra FIT, basketball, fencing, volleyball, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, roller hockey, ski and snowboard, softball, tennis, and table tennis. Clubs provide high-quality competitive and recreational sport opportunities and enhance collegiate and educational experiences. Competitive clubs participate in league-sanctioned intercollegiate games, while recreational clubs allow members to enhance their skills with their peers.
Spirit support includes the Hofstra CheerTeam, the Hofstra University Dance Team, our Pep Band, and Mascots – Kate and Willie. The primary role of spirit support is to increase student spirit and involvement at Hofstra University events. Spirit support is also very active in the community. Our Cheer and Dance Teams compete on national and international levels and hold many first-place titles. Students involved in spirit support groups are dedicated to improving their performance skills and are active student leaders.
