Instructional Coaches

Actions of Instructional Coaches

Instructional coaches work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to support the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices that improve student learning. A coach provides school-based, job-embedded professional learning by helping teachers to connect professional knowledge with student learning, match instructional practices with student needs, and engage in professional reflection. Coaches foster literacy by

  • Facilitating compelling conversations that contribute to reflective practice and a collaborative culture

  • Modeling how to transfer and apply literacy skills to content area work

  • Assisting teachers with the interpretation and use of balanced assessments to guide instruction

  • Collaborating with teachers to analyze, plan, co-teach and reflect

  • Designing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for teachers and administrators that support the Division’s literacy goals

  • Engaging in on-going professional learning
