Families are an essential partner in the learning experience since family members prepare students for learning and work directly with teachers and school staff to ensure students grow as learners. Families foster literacy growth by

• Ensuring students attend school on-time every day

• Providing students with reading and writing materials at home, including accessing materials from the Henrico County Public Library

• Talking with students outside of school to practice effective speaking and listening skills

• Being a role model for lifelong literacy by showing how you read and write for real purposes

• Attending and participating in school literacy events

• Celebrating student achievement
