Happy Thursday, Families!
It’s been a busy week here at HJH!
Please take a look at this week’s Blackhawk Beat.
This is a reminder that our ELA DBA is scheduled for Wednesday, January 28. Students should bring their computer and charger, eat a healthy breakfast, and plan to be present for the full school day.
Due to potential weather, we will move our Donuts and Discussion session with the administrative team to February 2nd at 9:15 a.m. Our counselors will be discussing the new graduation requirements that affect our 8th graders and beyond. Please let us know what other topics you would like to hear about by completing the feedback form.
Thank you to a parent for the Martin Luther King Jr. display in our front office, placed alongside our Tree of Dreams. This week also included peaceful student protests outside the main office, which resulted in a schoolwide pajama day. Together, these moments reflected our focus on dreaming big, civic expression, and advocating for what students believe is right (pajamas was a stretch... but the effort was there)!

New Safety Equipment Storage on Campuses
In accordance with a new Texas school safety law, HEB ISD will be installing secure equipment safes in or near the lobby of each campus to store required emergency response tools. These safes are part of statewide safety standards and are intended to support rapid response by trained law enforcement in the event of an emergency. The safes do not contain firearms, will remain locked at all times and are accessible only to authorized law enforcement personnel. This measure is one of several steps HEB ISD continues to take to prioritize the safety and security of our students and staff.
It has been a great week at Harwood.

Last night, our theatre troupe, led by Stephanie Campbell, performed A Still Life With Iris as part of their preparation for the One Act competition. The performance was amazing and the amount of talent was incredible!

8th Grade Boys Basketball
It was a great night for Harwood Basketball as both the A Team and B Team earned dominant wins over North Oaks. From the opening tip, the Blackhawks controlled the game with energy, discipline, and strong team play on both ends of the floor. The Blackhawks are back in action next Thursday at Euless Junior High as we take on the Euless Stallions. Let’s keep the momentum rolling.
The 8th grade boys play tonight against Euless at Euless JH at 5pm.
Soccer
Last Night, one of our boys’ soccer teams was back in action. Albion had a bye week, while the Blackhawks took on Hurst and fell 2–0. The score tells part of the story, but the real takeaway is about discipline, responsibility, and team standards.
Coach Megan made a firm decision to bench three starting players this week for classroom conduct issues, violations that also broke their signed player agreements. At Harwood, representing your team means representing your character. When classroom behaviour slips, so does your chance to play.
A clear game plan was given, and every player was told exactly what their role was. Out of the entire squad, only one player followed through, our goalkeeper, Jassiel Rodriguez, who not only carried out his instructions but stopped a penalty kick. His focus, effort, and respect for his role earned him Coach’s Man of the Match.
For the rest of the team, this was a wake-up call. Soccer, like life, demands effort, listening, and accountability. Ignoring instruction on the field mirrors what happens in class when directions go unheard. That connection matters.
Moving forward, Coach Megan expects stronger commitment from every player: to Harwood, their teammates, and themselves. Talent doesn’t win games, discipline does. The challenge is clear: learn from this, trust the process, and come back ready to earn your spot and your team’s respect.
