Senior Girls Basketball

The senior girls’ basketball season has come to an end. With a roster of impressive talent, the TAB Tigers had a season to remember; one of effort, strategy and teamwork.

Coaching was an important step to bring out the best in every player. Coaches with strong leadership and genuine skill in the beloved sport is a key factor in achieving the team’s success. Two teachers who stepped up to the coaching challenge and were committed to their roles were Ms. Northey and Mr. Alchesi, who were assisted with the help of team managers and grade 11 students, Makenna Murtagh and Victoria Melo. These four truly showed their Tiger spirit and dedication to the team. The team’s performances revolved around the talent, hard work, and collaboration of the 16 players, led by their captain Manon Grincourt. Through her leadership and the team's consistent efforts, great improvement was seen on the court over the season.

The girls’ basketball team was quick to start up; tryouts started a little over a week after the return to school. Following tryouts, rigorous practices took place until their first game against Craig Kielburger Secondary School on the 20th of September. Games would continue throughout the season, with tournaments and games.  Unfortunately, the Tigers’ season was cut short after their final regular season game on October 23rd. The team just missed a playoff spot.

The team's real strength was shown at their home games, under the electrifying ambiance of the crowd. Blakelock’s Pink Game displayed the encouraging crowd in a game against King’s Christian Collegiate on the 4th of October, where the school came to support the senior girls’ team and make some noise.

Overall, the Blakelock senior girls' basketball team has not only showcased athleticism and skill on the court, but has also embodied the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship as they wrap up their memorable season.
