Throughout the years, the Community Pathways Program (CPP) department has been creating a secret garden. The mystery of room South 111 and the garden that it contains has finally been solved, and the answers are contained below.
The garden started in 2018 as a fully indoor space but has expanded outdoors behind the Library and S111 to include a compost area, and a herb and fruit/vegetable patch. An outdoor garden has been beneficial for both the CPP students and the staff. The gardens add to the TAB ecosystem and create a habitat for the insects and animals in the area. Furthermore, the gardens beautify our school grounds.
Some of the plants that were started indoors include the papaya tree

Strawberries!
Spider plants (above), pepper plants, impatiens, and ferns (not pictured).
The equipment for this project has all come from around the school property or has been donated by staff members.
Currently, the CPP students are preparing the outdoor garden for nice weather. They must clear out the planting area and prepare the soil so that they can find the best location and condition for each plant.
These biodegradable planters (left) are nearly ready to go into the ground!
S111 also acts as a plant hospital. Sick plants are brought to S111 so that they can be cared for until they are healthy enough to be returned back to their former homes.
Several of the students were asked about their jobs, favourite plants, and whether they prefer working indoors or outdoors. Their responses are recorded in the table below:
A sick palm is being nursed to health in the plant hospital.

Overall, the gardens are a great addition to the Blakelock community and we appreciate how the CPP students and staff are adding to the beauty and health of our school.
