Implementation
Grade level common formative assessments should be implemented by subject areas for K-5.
Collaborative teams of classroom teachers, with assistance from academic coaches, will develop common assessments. These assessments can be created by:
Writing items from scratch
Borrowing items from publisher’s tests, released EOG tests, the NC Tools for Teachers site, SchoolNet, and the math pacing guides.
Assessment Creation
Common formative assessments will be created for units of instruction, which can vary from one to four weeks.
The interval between common formative assessments should depend on the length of the instructional units.
Support for this process will be provided by C&I and academic coaches.
With the increase in the use of SchoolNet for common assessments and classroom assessments, it is important to use a consistent naming convention for all assessments. The naming convention is as follows:

School Initials_Assessment Type_Subject_Grade_Year
Example 1: SES_CA_ELA_3_2223 (A common assessment for third grade ELA at Scurlock)
Example 2: SGES_CR_Math_5_2223 (A classroom test for fifth grade math class at Sandy Grove)
Additional Information:
Teachers can add any additional information after the year if desired.
