Sarcosuchus was a massive, 31-38 foot long beast, with a snout that was 75% of its head. These gigantic pseudosuchians are considered close relatives to crocodilians, though technically not a croc. Youngsters had a slender, gharial-like snout, but it broadened when they reached adulthood. Also like gharials, Sarcosuchus had a bump on its nose, though it was on all skulls we have found so far, indicating that there may not be sexual dimorphism. Sarcosuchus appears to have needed braces, as it had an overbite. Other dental care was needed, as there are 4 less teeth on the bottom than the top.
Sarcosuchus shared many traits with modern-day gharials. These weird things snap up fish with such speed that photos of them hunting are always blurry! Males have bumps on their noses, just like all of the Sarcosuchus skulls we have found.
