Meganeura

Meganeura (large nerved) was a gigantic dragonfly from the Late Carboniferous period. It is sometimes confused with its descendant, Meganeuropsis (also means large nerved). The latter lived in the Late Permian, and was slightly smaller. Meganeura likely went extinct during the Carboniferous-Permian extinction, when the oxygen-rich atmosphere that allowed insects to get so big collapsed.
