Deinonychus was a carnivore. It likely ate Tenontosaurus, a medium to large herbivore. When alone, they may have eaten small mammals and lizards. Though they preferred fresh meat, deinonychuses were not above scavenging. Deinonychus may have been a pack hunter, with multiple leaping into the air with their wings. However, their pack would not be organized like a wolf pack. It is more likely that they just mobbed prey together, and did not feed their young. Deinonychuses would latch onto a tenontosaurus, ripping flesh out with their mouths, and stabbing into the prey with their talons. Getting killed by a deinonychus was a painful way to die.
