Meganeuras lived in France during the Late Carboniferous period. They were adapted to more open habitats, and likely lived in either a thin swamp-forest, or near a beach of a swamp-forest. Meganeuras would've had to live with mazothairos, a different type of winged insect, Arthropleura, a 30 foot long millipede, and Pulmonoscorpius, a giant scorpion that was close to one foot in length. As meganeuras flew through the swamp, the first reptiles crawled underfoot.
