Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
Fabric, a sewing machine, iron,
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to create a patchwork piece of fabric to create a book sleeve.
What unique qualities will your project have?
The fabric will be pieces of fabric that I picked out and sewed together.
Made my website page and started my list of ten.
Today I picked out fabric to make my big patchwork fabric piece with and ironed only two of the pieces and have to finish the rest tomorrow because I want the fabric pieces to not be wrinkly.
Today I finished ironing my fabric and cut out my squares and changed the thread color I'm using to a cream instead of a white.
Today my fabric got stuck in the sewing machine and I had a really hard time getting it out and wasn't able to get anything else done.
Waited for someone else to finish using the sewing machine.
Finished my project.
Using the sewing machine and fabric I created a book bag. I created this because I hate when my book covers get folded and this helps prevent it. I even made it padded to add extra protection for my books.
During this process, I learned how to do patchwork fabric. Last time I used the sewing machine I just used one fabric pattern. This time I wanted to challenge myself a little more and make the piece look cooler so I ended up finding multiple different fabric patterns and used the sewing machine to sew them all into one big piece of fabric.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered leaner. It ties to empowered learner because I had an active role in choosing and achieving my goal.
A challenge I overcame on this project was when I got my fabric stuck in the sewing machine. I was able to fix it by taking apart the metal plate where it got stuck with a screw driver. At first I tried to just pull it out but it was too small of a piece for my fingers to grasp.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of time I had and the amount of the specific fabric patterns I had. The reason why I would change it is because I feel I could have made the piece look way better and more professional if I would've had time. I also wished I just slowed down and let myself get the piece exactly how I wanted it to look like.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It ties to this because I designed and engineered my book sleeve.
My project connects to careers in tailoring and clothing designers. It ties to this because they both have to make adjustments to their pieces. They also get to pick out the fabric that they use especially in designing clothing and being able to bring something to life just from a thought.
