8P6 - Glowforge

Using the glowforge, a computer, a cutting board, and a file converter, I created a engraved wood project for my mom. I did this because I wanted to learn about the glowforge and how it works. I also did this because I wanted to create a meaningful project for my mom.

During this process, I learned how to convert files. The glowforge needs a certian file to be able to engrave your design. So, I had to learn how to use a file converter to convert files into an .svg file.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner. It ties to Empowered Learner because I had an active role in choosing what my goal for this project was and I had an active goal in achieving that.

A challenge I overcame on this project was finding a file coverter and covertining the files. I was able to do it by figurring out what type the file was then coverting it into the .svg. Some of the files had to be converted more than once because some of the files weren't able to covert into .svg from their originally file.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way it engraved. The reason why I would change it is because some of the lettering and lines are darker than others. I would also change some of the spacing I choose because some of the letters didn't print in the exact place I wanted.

Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing.  My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to this CTE because I had to design the way the print worked.

My project connects to careers in mechaincal enginerring. It ties to this becuase mechanical engernners design and develope mechanical systems and products. This job is in high demand because of people wanting clean energy, electric vehicles and automation. It is expected to grow 9% from 2024-2034.
