Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
A sewing machine, thread, embroidery machine
What is your plan to create in this project?
My original plan was to create a memory bear, but I ended up changing it to two Hay bags for my rabbits.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have both of my rabbits names on the front of the bags.
Today I made my website page and did some research about the templet I will need to make the bear.
I threaded the sewing machine and did my first test scrap to see how it works. I also printed my templet.
Today I cut out my templet on the fabric so I can try my first practice bear tomorrow.
Today I had to learn how to thread the bobbing beacause it wasn't catching. I attempted to start sewing my bear but I think i cut the fabric wrong or i sewn it together wrong because one was inside out and the other was the right side.
I attempted to stitch the two pieces together but it did not work so i need to figure out what i need to do to get them to connect.
Today I switched what i am doing to hay bags for my rabbits.
Today I finished making my bags and doing the embroidery on the bag.
Today I cut the loose threads off the bags and I also finished the Video and Reflection.
Using a fabric, a sewing, and embroidery machine, I created two hay bags for my rabbits. I created these hay bags because I wanted to learn how to use a sewing and embroidery machine. I also made these hay bags because I needed new ones for my rabbits and I wanted the hay bags to be customized with their name.
During this process, I learned how to thread a sewing machine and embroidery machine along with how to work each machine. When I was learning this it was very much trial and error. Sometimes I was able to get it on my first try other times I had to redo it three or four different times.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to empowered leaner. It ties to empowered learner because I had an active role in choosing what I wanted to make and I was able to demonstrate my idea by bringing it to life and creating it myself.
A challenge I overcame on this project was threading the bobben on the sewing machine. I was able to do it by starting over and watching videos. I had to to take out the thread and make sure it was positioned correctly so it was caught by the needle.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the holes in the bag. The reason why I would change it is because the cuts were not straight. I wish I would've cut the holes before I started sewing it so I could make it cleaner.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It ties to this because in engineering you have to create solutions for problems that you have and that's what I did when I made my Hay bags. I solved the issue of my rabbits wasting Hay.
My project connects to careers in costume designing for movies/tv shows or plays. It connects to this because people who create costujmes have to measure, plan out, sew, and sometimes use embroidery to make these costumes. I had to do these also but instead of it being a costume it was two Hay bags.
