I am working by myself on this project.
I will need Google, Plato, tape, Makey Makeys, an iPod, and a computer.
I plan to create a video game controller that will plug into a computer and I hand controller for the same purpose.
My project will be unique because I can interact with it using just my fingers instead of the typical keyboard.
Using Makey Makey, I created three different video game controllers because it seemed like something I would really enjoy and be able to get creative with. The first was a standard plus shaped controller. The second was a two finger controller that was operated with my thumb and index finger. The third was a controller operated by all parts of my hand.
During this process, I learned how to attach a Makey Makey controller onto my hand. I did this by taping my fingers and attaching a wire onto each of them. I then taped a controller around my wrist to activate the circuit.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner because I had to learn and create this project by myself. I had to make the decisions about my project.
A challenge I overcame on this project was that my iPod (with all the photos and videos on this page) did not connect to the internet and I could not upload them. I was able to do it (upload them) by screenshotting them on another device. After that I uploaded them to Google Drive and onto this website.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way I put the wires on my fingers. The reason why I would change it is because putting the wires in a lot of plato added too much weight and putting them in no plato made them loose. I would have used a little bit of plato to balance this out.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in engineering, computer design, and being an electrician.
I created a regular controller with a 4 button plus and an extra on the side. I also had another wire taped to my right wrist so I could use my left hand to play the game. The game that I am using for this entire project is Basket Random.
This is the regular controller shaped in a + symbol with an extra pad.
This is the circuit I used and plugged into the controller to make it work.
(This video was used with this controller).
I experimented with two ideas. My first idea was to create a single button on my right index finger. My second idea was to create a full controller covering all of my fingers on my right hand.
This is my first design with only one wire on my right index finger
This is my second design where I taped wires to all of my fingers.
(This video was made using the first design).
I finished my planning questions, my reflection, daily log for days 1 & 2, and video and image uploading.
I put two videos through iMovie software (all the way the bottom).
