Science
Intent STATEMENT
At Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery School, we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. As a core subject, we intend for Science to have continual high status within our curriculum.
By learning science, pupils develop knowledge and understanding of the world. They learn to enquire and be curious. They learn to respect living organisms and the physical environment. We believe that all children are able to achieve high standards in Science.
In conjunction with the aims of the National Curriculum, we aim that children:
Develop the essential scientific enquiry skills (IPROF)* to deepen their scientific knowledge.
Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding in a variety of ways and contexts, including through use of our Wilderness area, extra-curricular clubs, external visitors and excursions.
Learn to question and discuss scientific issues that may affect their lives.
Learn to use scientific equipment safely, accurately and with respect.
Active learning is at the heart of Science at Hampton Wick. We promote problem solving, questioning, curiosity and extending knowledge through deeper enquiry. By the time they leave our school, we want children to have developed an enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of, scientific learning and discovery.
