History

INTENT STATEMENT

Here at Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery School we strive to develop a curiosity and awareness of the past which informs the childrens’ understanding and exploration of their present. We hope to inspire our children and encourage them to question the world around them using our subject knowledge alongside the curriculum to support them. The history curriculum here at Hampton Wick enables children to develop a range of investigation and problem solving skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

From a child’s first year in Nursery until their progression into KS2 we aim to provide opportunities with a real life context for our children to develop the knowledge, historical perspective and cultural capital they will need in order to succeed in life.  Our intent is that through reflection upon past events they begin to make connections between continuity and change, cause and consequence and similarity and difference which are the primary aims of a rich and broad history curriculum.  We aspire to introduce and promote ways of developing the methods of historical enquiry, and how historical evidence can be found and used to make historical claims.
