Geography

Intent STATEMENT

At Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery School our children are encouraged to develop the foundations that will support them in developing a deep understanding and knowledge of our planet.  We prioritise children recognising their place within the world and their responsibilities for it. We aim to ignite children’s curiosity and fascination, expanding their interests from the familiar to the broader local area and then beyond.

Our geography curriculum enables children to develop a range of investigation and problem-solving skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and can be used to promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We aim to highlight the importance and need to care for our local environment and the world we live in, taking full advantage of our wilderness and outdoor learning areas. By learning about the wider world children are taught to appreciate and accept other cultures and styles of living.

Our school believes that developing geographical skills is vital if children are to become successful and responsible citizens.
