Design Technology

Intent STATEMENT

At Hampton Wick we value Design and Technology as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Design and Technology provides all children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.

We aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own products. We strive to ensure the progressive development of knowledge and skills. First-hand experiences and observation of our stimulating environment are valued as drivers for design.  We seek to develop children’s creativity and imagination, developing this alongside competence in the control of materials and tools and proficiency in design and technology techniques and processes.

Solving real and relevant problems is integral to Design and Technology at Hampton Wick.  We aim to provide children with a variety of contexts through which they can use their creativity and imagination to design and make products.  In this way pupils are challenged to consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Cross-curricular opportunities are provided with children applying elements of mathematics, science, computing and art.

Within Design and Technology we want our children to learn to take risks and to become resourceful, innovative and enterprising.
