Thank you for covering my classes today! First Grade students will need the supplies on the art cart and the handouts for the lesson in the black fabric bin on the side of the art cart. ALL CLASSES will have 1 period to complete this lesson.

A look at the Element of Art: SPACE (Positive and Negative)
while creating an artwork using different elements of art lines, shapes, and colors.
OBJECTIVE:
Each student will follow along with guided instructions/video tutorial to create and complete their own seasonally inspired Hanging Ornaments artwork creating positive and negative space - while using at least two different elements of art (line, shape, color) within their hanging ornaments, using multiple media that allow for student choice, according to the accompanying rubric.

All warm ups will go home as well.
These handouts can be found in the black fabric pull out bin on the side of my art cart.
STEP 3:
Using the video drawing guide, help the students complete their artwork. Feel free to pause the video as often as needed for the students. The ornament handout seen below can be found in the black fabric bin on the side of my art cart.

After they are all done drawing details in the ornaments with pencil, they can use a black sharpie to trace the details. FIRST GRADE ONLY is permitted ot use the mr. sketch markers on my cart to add color into their ornaments (this video was made during covid, and that is why I am using crayons) The students are allowed to use the mr. sketch markers ot make their ornaments more vibrant. At thend end of the video 1, they are shown how to cut the ornaments out, and there is a bin of scissors and glue for all students on one of the bottom shelves of the art cart

This next video will help them complete their artwork. Black paper for each students can be found in the black fabric bin of my art cart. Students can trade in their scissors for gluesticks once they have completed cutting them out. Use this next video to show and demonstrate how to glue them onto the black paper, and then add in the silver details using the silver metallic sharpies from my cart.

This next video will help them complete their artwork. Black paper for each students can be found in the black fabric bin of my art cart. Students can trade in their scissors for gluesticks once they have completed cutting them out. Use this next video to show and demonstrate how to glue them onto the black paper, and then add in the silver details using the silver metallic sharpies from my cart.
**REMINDER** The silver sharpies are MORE PERMANENT than the black sharpies. Please make sure the students are careful and intentional with their art making. Give the studetns around 10 minutes max with the silver sharpies - silver is simply supposed to be an accent-- they should not be coloring coloring with the silver. (feel free to use the timer if you want)
Last Step:
When finished, students can color a coloring page using crayons *NO MARKERS FOR COLORING PAGES*, found under the coloring page sign on my art cart (4 narrow shelves). The backs are blank, if they would prefer to draw. The students can take home their coloring pages and warm ups, but please keep their HANGING ORNAMENT ARTWORKS! Please have each class clean up the room to maintain a safe and clean environment for all the students.
Last Step:
