Pickett Model 800 and Model 600

The N-800 family was produced in the United States from 1945 to the early 1960's. Initially fabricated with magnesium (1945-1950), was fabricated in aluminum during the next years. The scales were photo printed on a yellow (ES- Eye Saver) or white (T- Traditional White) paint coat. Cursor lenses were all plastic and were screwed to also to metallic ends in the magnesium models and to plastics ends in the aluminum one.

The early models were simply labeled Model 800, but after 1950, they were labeled Model 800-ES or 800-T Log Log Synchro-Scale, and years later Model N800, even though the scales set never changed. The scales on the Model 800 are: LL1+0.01/-0.01, A [ B, ST, T Cot, S Cos, C ] D, DI, K on he front face, and LL2+0.1/-0.1, DF [ CF, CIF, L, CI, C ] D, LL3+1.0/-1.0 on the back face. This 22 scales set made the model 800 very suited for scientific and engineering applications. In the early 1960's Model 800 evolved to a more robust Model 803 with 28 scales

The Model 600, fabricated (1949-1960) can be considered the pocket version of Model 800 because it has same 22 scales set. This model was initially fabricated with magnesium, but in the early 1950's began also to be fabricated with aluminum. In the early 1960"s, Model 600 evolved to model N-600, with only one scale change: the CFI reverse scale was replaced by the Ln scale.

In this collection, there are models magnesium made and aluminum made.

According to the logos drawn on the aluminum made rules in this collection, shown below, the N-800-T was fabricated between 1966 and 1975, while the Model 600 was fabricated in the period 1950-1958:

A skillful user can solve the next problems using a N-800 or an model 600 with a precision of two or three decimals:

Here are the User Manuals written by Maurice Hartung, scanned by the ISRM. Pickett created manuals explaining the use of specific scales, and these manuals could be used with any rule having those scales.
