Nestler Early Rietz No. 1096

The No. 1096 slide rule is a rare model, practically I have not found information other than sales records. Only the International Slide Rule Museum has a model like this in its Nestler collection. There is not much information: It is referred as Nestler Rietz Early, copyright year 1920, manufactured in by Nestler in Germany as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to be commercialized by other companies outside Germany, assertion that can be supported on the fact that instruction and tables on the rule's back face are in English, as well as all scales labelled.

The 1096 model was also fabricated with Mahogany covered with white celluloid screwed to the wood body and glued in others, all glass indicator glued to metallic ends. The cursor has two additional gauge lines. The distribution of the scales on this rule is identical to the used in brands manufactured in the United States by that time, like the Mannheim K&E-4053, or the Lawrence 10. The scales on the No. 1096 are: 10in - A [ B, CI, C ] D, K - 25cm on the front face, and [ S, L, T ] on the slider's back. These trigonometric scales are divided in degrees-minutes, but the minutes scale is decimal. On the rule's back face there is a very dense table with unit conversions, equivalences, and materials properties, which makes that think this rule was produced to be used in the engineering field.

This model, as most of the Nestler rules fabricated before 1955,do not have printed or engraved serial numbers, and the difficulty to find product catalogs do not let determine fabrication years with precision.

The next operations can be performed with a precision two or three decimals with any of these rules:
