Dear Community Members,
Our students and faculty have participated in numerous academic, athletic and social activities in our classrooms, on our pitches and courts, in our hallways, common areas and theatre that have engaged, captivated and energised our Global Jaya School Community. From our Year 6 Class trip to Yogyakarta to Halloween Movie Night and Foodfest to the Book Week celebration to our participation and success in the Jakarta Athletics and Activities Conference championships to our international participation in the Singapore Maths Challenge, IB Professional Development Workshops and World Scholars Cup, one thing is very clear. Global Jaya School students, faculty, and parents proudly lead and represent our school and community while also serving as tremendously positive and effective ambassadors. Further, they are recognised for their efforts as they are rewarded for their efforts, as demonstrated by the special recognitions, honours, awards, and championships our students and faculty routinely earn. I am so very proud of our students and faculty for their dedication, work ethic, commitment and resultant successes. GO HAWKS!
Our fourteen Global Jaya School Scholars have landed in New York and have made their way to the World Scholars Cup Tournament of Champions (ToC), being held November 1 - 9, 2023, on the Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut.
Our students have used these many weeks prior to departure to reinforce and refine their debate, collaborative writing and quiz skills. On the ground here in New Haven, we have continued our preparations, taken in some of the local sights and cuisine, AND worked to stay on track with the day-in and day-out teaching and learning activities happening back on the GJS campus. While our scholars will be busy, they are excited and are ready to complete!
We have been accompanied by a supportive and proactive contingent of moms and dads, some of whom also participate in the ToC as they serve as Scavenger Hunt leaders and Debate Competition adjudicators.
We look forward to great things from our lively, energetic and talented team of Junior and Senior Scholars. Please join me in wishing our Scholars the best wishes through their events over the coming week!
Junior Scholars: Alema, Btari, Elia, Emery, Fidel, Jaeyden, Katherine, and Vienna
Senior Scholars: Akbar, Bagas, Jennie, Jana, Nadine, and Pippa
Chaperones: Ibu Agnes, Pak Alex, Ibu Cici, Ibu Fendra, Ibu Wina, Pak Yosef, Ibu Dewi and Pak Cory
Eager GJS Scholars with their proud and supportive families seeing them off before their journey!
The Global Jaya School Board is comprised of 3 Directors from our Yayasan Pendidikan Jaya, 3 Parent Representatives (one for each of the PYP, MYP and DP programmes), 2 Faculty Representatives (one each for Indonesian and Expat faculty), the GJS Parents Association Chairperson, our General Manager and myself as Head of School. This advisory body convenes three to four times per school year to discuss various matters related to GJS operations and management: student enrolment, student achievement, staffing, school fees, risk assessment, strategic planning and so on. In particular, the Parent and Faculty Representatives help the board understand prevalent concerns and viewpoints from their perspective as parents and faculty community members. The information shared, inputs and feedback provided help to guide School Leadership in performing their functions with the school's day-to-day operations.
