To kick off the year, Angkatan 24 put on their last assembly: a tribute to their childhood and growth alongside the need to transition into adulthood. A leading cast of six graced the stage, playing a group of friends reminiscing on and time-traveling back to their earlier school days. With the help of the rest of their cohort, who took part in music, supporting roles, and props, the ensemble took us through each grade in their school journey, ranging from playing with toys in primary, struggling through online classes in Year 9, to enjoying a field trip in Year 11.
Montages filled in the gaps between each period they visited, marking significant moments throughout their lives alongside songs that defined that era, including Hivi’s teenage anthem, Remaja!. The year level also held two performances of As It Was by Harry Styles and Laskar Pelangi by Nidji. The latter was particularly symbolic in its lyrics about reaching for one’s dreams and significant as a callback to this cohort’s first assembly in 2019, which they concluded with the same song. It was thus fitting that this performance was joined by the entire angkatan, who entered the stage towards the second half of the song and sang altogether in unity, waving their arms together as their last hurrah. The assembly ended with a farewell note on the screen reading, “Angkatan ‘24 signing out,” and applause erupting throughout the theater.
Although simple in presentation, the Year 12 assembly was heartfelt and profound, extremely commemorative of everything the cohort has endured together and affirming for themselves as well as their juniors. Through their performance, they embodied the Reflective IB Learner Profile by doubly introspecting on their journeys and inviting others to reflect on this growth with them. “Go forth and conquer,” they said. “The sunny days don’t have to stay in the past.” With this, they signal their maturity into adulthood and hope to remind others that what awaits them in the future can be just as fulfilling as their childhood.
