On Monday, October 23rd, 2023, the Year 4 students started to do a science experiment about hand hygiene.
During the experiment, we tested with bread about the Hand Hygiene Experiment. We watched a video on Brainpop explaining soap and how it cleans germs. Then we experimented on bread. Each group had five people and five pieces of bread. We tested the bread using our hands. There were four groups and each group needed to decide what role they would have in the experiment.
Person 1 needed to wear gloves and carefully put the bread inside the Control - Fresh and Untouched zip bag.
Person 2 needed to make their hands dirty by touching dirty things and putting them inside the Dirty Hands - Unwashed Touched zip bag.
Person 3 needed to ask a volunteer in their group to borrow their device and wipe the bread on the device for 2 - 3 minutes and put it inside a bag named Wiped on Device.
Person 4 had to use hand sanitizer and dry off their hand, then put their bread inside the Hand Sanitizer zip bag.
The last one, person 5, had to wash their hands with soap and water before drying off their hands without tissue or anything else. Then put their bread inside the zip bag named Soap & Water.
We put all the bread in the back of the rooms that had categories of groups 1, 2, 3, and 4. The teacher then gave us a Google Docs. We had to observe the bread, make predictions, and observe the bread daily for two weeks. Then after two weeks, we make a conclusion about the changes in the bread. Including things like which gets mold first, which gets the most mold, which grows the least, and more.
