Last week, Year 5 participated in a rehearsal for ANBK. ANBK stands for Asesmen Nasional Berbasis Komputer. It is an adaptive format of assessment. The test becomes more manageable or challenging depending on the student's ability to answer the questions. There is no preparation needed. It does not assess the individual student. However, the result of this assessment evaluates a school's performance. We're just asked to have a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast the night before the test.
ANBK consists of numeracy, literacy, learning environment, and character surveys.
We get different experiences when facing various questions. The questions were related to what we learned so that we could do it well. There were some questions that we needed to know how to answer. It took our time, but we still couldn't figure it out.
While doing the test, there was a timer, and we had to manage our time wisely while the exam was delivered with various instructions. Other methods that I apply during the assessment. I had to read the instructions to answer the question carefully.
In this Unit of Inquiry, we learned about simple machines and scientific forces. We are having a summative project about designing something that solves real problems. The expectation of the project is the student can explain how scientific forces (minimum of 3) work within their model and how the forces can change under different conditions. It also involves the application of simple machines (minimum of 2). The student should deeply understand the scientific method and its specific vocabulary.
Students create and construct various models as solutions to their problems. The due date for the project is November 6th, then individual presentations leading to two persons from each class are voted to the final round. Here is the rubric for the project:
A student made a machine that can park more than one car in a limited place.
Final Round: Design Judged by HS Design Teacher (16 November)They are also getting their designs judged, and the two best designs will be presented to the school.
We are also graded on the technical words we use in our presentation later on and also if it is doable. Then we need to start making the models. We have finished finding an idea and problem, and now we are starting to make the scientific method, design, and presentation.
On October 30th, 2023, some Year 5 students were tasked to run the Upacara Bendera that Global Jaya School has been doing regularly. For the regular, we usually do it with only primary level (Kindergarten-Year 6). GJS also runs the Upacara Bendera on special events such as Independence Day and National Heroes Day. This Upacara is usually celebrated with the whole school, including secondary students, from Year 7 to Year 12. On this Upacara, the time will take longer because there are extra parts like silent moments to the heroes who fought for Indonesia and listening to the speech from the student in charge.
Our roles in this Upacara Bendera were different, such as being an MC who tells the program of Upacara, delivering a speech, and flag raisers. Being the person in charge of Upacara wasn’t easy, and we had to memorize every step we took and everything we did. We usually practice twice to three times before real Upacara. We became risk-takers when carrying out this task.
The Purpose of Upacara Bendera
The purpose of Upacara Bendera is to get used to being orderly and disciplined, get used to having a neat appearance, improve leadership skills, get used to being willing to be led, foster cooperation, and strengthen a sense of national spirit.
