Back to school after a week of restful holiday, Kindergarten is welcomed with new activities added to the routine. As we move to term 2, the Kindergarten students continue to grow and are ready to explore new challenges.
Seating arrangement
Classroom seating arrangements play an essential role in Kindergarten learning. Seating can influence how comfortable the students feel participating in activities and how much they can focus on their work. At the beginning of term 2, the Kindergarten students were given an opportunity to pick their new seat. The students were encouraged to sit in a table group they had never sat in or with a friend they had never sat with before.
2. Show and Tell
Show and Tell is a time for our Kindergarten students to practise their communication skills. Not only do they learn how to explain an object or an activity, but they also learn to form questions. Forming questions into simple and understandable sentences is an important skill to channel their curiosity. So far, some students have brought in their toys, musical instruments and showed a creation they created at home.
3. Reading Programme
Introducing a love of reading to Kindergarten students can give them a head start on developing their vocabulary and building independence and self-confidence. It helps students learn about the world and people around them, building social-emotional skills and, of course, their imagination. Since the Kindergarten students are not yet able to read text by themselves, the parents will read the book for them. This way, the bond between the parents and their child is also strengthened.
4. Swimming
Kindergarten will start swimming lessons this term. While most of the students seem excited about swimming, there are still a few of the students who feel worried and nervous about swimming at school. To ensure the environment is safe, the teachers brought the students to the swimming pool a week before the lesson started. They were informed about the different areas in the swimming pool, the rules applied during swimming lessons, how they should walk, and what they should do when they need help.
5. New Door Decoration!
This term, Kindergarten students had their first Book Week at school. One of the highlights of the event was the door decoration. The Kindergarten students chose Where’s Wally as the class theme. They love to find Wally together in the classroom. The students helped colour the objects and took pictures in different situations. After that, we assembled the pictures and the objects together into an awesome Where’s Wally door.
