Dear GJS New and Returning Families, 

From my family, as well as from our GJS Faculty and Staff, we extend a very hearty welcome to all of our new and returning students and their families. This is the first edition of Kontak, our monthly newsletter, welcoming you into our community, wishing your families a wonderful school experience through the 2023-2024 school year as well as sharing some important information and dates as well as preparing for orientations and the first day of classes.

During our new hire induction program this week, we have welcomed six returning and fourteen new faculty onto our GJS team. Our newest community members originate from Canada, Kenya, the Phillippines and the United States of America, as well as from our host country of Indonesia. Our faculty members bring with them diverse professional expertise, varying background experiences and a myriad of unique talents that will positively enhance our growing and evolving educational community. They each have prepared a welcome message to share on our New GJS Faculty Bios page. Please take a moment to meet each of our new community members.

Planning and preparing for new hire induction has been one of the many activities we have focused on over the summer break. Our General Affairs team has been busy installing new flooring in Secondary Building B, revamping sinks and bathrooms areas in the Primary school, resurfacing all tables within the canteen area, as well as repainting and freshening up our campus. 

Our admissions team has been very busy, supported by members of our GJS faculty and leadership, as we have continued to process new student admissions applications. For the 2023-2024 school year, we have so far enrolled a total of 120 new students, representing 110 new families for the upcoming academic year who will be joining the GJS community. Our admissions and enrollment remain open, processing the ongoing and still incoming student applications and admission requests for the new school year. 

Next week, July 31 - August 4, we will be holding a two-day IBO delivered Category 3 workshop for faculty specific to our linkage of the IB Learner Profile to teaching and learning practices at GJS. As well, new student induction programs, followed closely by new parent orientation sessions at both the primary and secondary levels will be held.  These critical events support our newest community members by developing shared understanding, introducing our administrative and curricular leaders, providing insight into our educational practices, as well as clarifying our day-to-day procedures here at Global Jaya School.   All parents are asked to review the Primary and Secondary Kontak Pages for full details on dates and times and access information to our upcoming induction events as well as information on the August 7 start of school the following week.  

Our Canteen, continuing to be operated by Brandina Catering, will be in operation next week, serving faculty, staff and any students and parents who will be on campus partaking in next week's orientation meetings and activities. For the week of August 7 - 11, lunch orders will be collected starting on Wednesday, August 2. Please click HERE on or after August 2 to make your first-week lunch orders.

As we launch the new school year, I look forward to hosting the first Morning Coffee with Pak Cory on August 16, 2023. We will meet in the Dance Room, Second floor of the Gymnasium, commencing at 8:30 am.
