Wishing you all a very warm welcome to the beginning of the academic year 2023-24. We have been working hard behind the scenes in order to ensure that the school year begins with an explosion of fun, positive energy and a strong sense of community.
In order to assist in the smooth running of the first couple of weeks, please take note of the following important updates and information.
New family induction day
Our new family induction day is planned for Thursday 3rd August, 07.45 - 13.00. We have two schedules running concurrently; one schedule for all new parents and one schedule for all new Secondary students. We will begin the day together in the Multi Purpose Hall (MPH) for a prompt 07.45 start.
It will be very helpful for some of our workshops, if both parents and students could bring a device to access our digital platform.
We are looking forward to meeting you all!

Orientation day
The first day of the school year is Monday August 8th. All students are expected to be in school by 07.20, ready for a prompt 07.30 start. In order to orient all students to the beginning of the academic year, we have planned an orientation day. Throughout the day, students will participate in a variety of fun and informative sessions rather than attend their usual school schedule.
The schedule for Monday 8th August can be found below. The day concludes with a community building event called ‘The Amazing GJS Race’ which will see teams competing against each other to complete challenges and earn house points for their team.
Students should bring a technological device with them, a spirit of adventure and a strong sense of humour!
WWW
After a covid induced hiatus, we are excited to bring back Week Without Walls for this academic year. Between 11th - 15th September, all students from years 7 - 11 will participate in a week-long Week Without Walls schedule. Each year level has a unique programme that promises an intensive learning experience for all students. The Week Without Walls experiences are specially created in order that students are presented with challenges that may be outside of their comfort zone. Successful completion of these challenges supports the development of self-esteem, skills and community.
Service learning has also been integrated into each WWW year-level schedule. Service learning is an essential aspect of both the Middle Years and the Diploma Programmes. Completion of the service learning component of WWW will therefore support each student’s academic achievement once they return to GJS.
Time is running out for students to register for this event. Please read the letter below that corresponds with your child's year level and complete registration as soon as possible. We will not be accepting registrations after 11th August.
Year 7 WWW, Year 8 & 9 WWW, Year 10 WWW, Year 11 WWW
And finally, we would like to welcome you into school at 3 pm on Wednesday 9th August in order to find out more about the arrangements for each year level WWW. We look forward to seeing you there.
Leadership Academy
We are excited to be partnering with the team from Learn with Leaders, in conjunction with Harvard Model Congress, to deliver a three day intensive leadership academy between 25th - 17th August.
The programme “ … spans three days and centers around leadership activities, contextual problem-solving and group collaboration to generate inventive solutions to some of the most urgent challenges of our era.” page 3, programme booklet
Delivered by Harvard college students, our students will complete a hands-on project that immerses them as change-makers and future leaders.
Due to last minute changes, we unexpectedly have two places available for any 8th - 12th grade student. If you wish to take advantage of one of these places, you must complete the form embedded in this brochure, before the end of the day on Monday 31st August. These final two places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
Harvard Mentor’s ‘Ask me Anything’ Presentation
Open to all students and parents, we are proud to invite you to attend a presentation where current Harvard students talk about their university pathway to being accepted at Harvard university.
Entitled ‘Ask Me Anything’, the Harvard mentors provide an opportunity for both parents and students to ask any burning questions they might have about applying to university, enhancing their university application profile or about life as a Harvard undergraduate.
Please join us in the Global Jaya Theatre for a prompt 3.05pm start on Thursday 24th August.
