Primary Teacher
Hello! My name is Jared Johnson and I'll be teaching Year 4 this academic year. I am an American from a small town in the state of Iowa. This year marks my 22nd year of teaching, and I am proud to say it's my 16th year in IB schools. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching in various locations including Houston, Texas; Suzhou, China; Tokyo, Japan; and Abu Dhabi, UAE. I truly appreciate teaching the IB curriculum because it focuses on teaching students how to think, rather than what to think. This teaching philosophy equips students with a diverse set of tools to solve the challenges they encounter in their daily lives.
In my leisure time, I thoroughly enjoy exploring. This includes traveling to different parts of the world as well as discovering places closer to my home. Additionally, I take pleasure in the activities of barbecuing, baking and volunteering in the community.
Secondary Principal
Hello Global Jaya community! My name is Howard Menand, and it is a great pleasure to join Global Jaya. I am originally from the United States and spent the first fifteen years of my education career as a teacher and school leader in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most recently, my international experience includes serving as a middle and secondary school principal for two different schools in Qatar: Qatar Academy Doha and Qatar Academy Sidra. I have experience with the PYP, MYP, and DP, and truly believe that the conceptual education provided through the IB curriculum best prepares students for life outside of the classroom.
When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My son, Ethan, recently graduated from high school and will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to study computer science. My daughter, Iria, will join Global Jaya this year in grade 10. I am also hooked on health and fitness and enjoy running everyday before school and doing my best to eat healthy foods.
Finally, I look forward to joining the Global Jaya family and getting to know our students, families, and community members throughout this school year.

MYP / DP English
It is often stated that home is where your heart is. My heart is always in the classroom, be it while enjoying an outing with family and friends, while basking in the sun or sitting at home reading a book, my mind always comes back to the classroom. I am constantly inundated with ideas to embed in my lessons, or ways to add value to my students, or how a lesson could have been made more successful. I realized a long time ago that I love teaching and when you love something, it stops being work and starts being life. Teaching is my life.
Having taught for the past 22 years. My joy stems from knowing that I make a difference in the lives of all the students that I meet. We not only celebrate the big academic gains but also baby steps that may be considered mundane by others. Every milestone is a cause for celebration in the classroom and by extension, in the school
I join Global Jaya School to be part of an amazing team that has the students’ well-being at heart. It is my hope and prayer that meaningful relationships will be built both with faculty and the student body, relationships that will manifest into success stories throughout. I know that I am at home at Global Jaya School.
