Between 12th - 14th January, Global Jaya School hosted the Harvard Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme, led by Mitja Bof, a Harvard student majoring in Economics and Statistics.
Over the course of the three day programme, Mitja guided our students through the process of identifying a problem and finding a solution for that problem through innovation. The students then worked in groups to generate an idea for a startup company that provided a marketable and profitable product. In the same groups, the students learned how to create a platform for their product and how to market, pitch and sell their product on the market.
The three day programme culminated in each group pitching their startup company to the room and then choosing which startup company to invest their money in.
The feedback on the quality of the programme was extremely positive. Here is a glimpse into what the students were saying about the experience:
"I enjoyed how we could find problems and figure out solutions and make it into a product. I also enjoyed learning the new things about entrepreneurship!!”
“One of the things I enjoyed about the experience were making the user personas and learning about their importance to our overall pitch deck. I also enjoyed the time we were given to create our prototypes as a group.”
“I enjoyed making app prototypes the most with my group.”
“I really enjoyed learning about all of the different aspects that go into making a final product of an app. I also really enjoyed being able to work with my group through the task work.”
Akbar, a year 8 student who attended the workshop, wrote:
"Initially, I was skeptical about attending the Harvard Entrepreneurship Accelerator, because I had presumed that it was a regular lecture that spanned three days, and it certainly didn’t help that those two days happened to be the weekend. But in the end, I’ve come to admit that it was worth giving away my weekend for. After I went and experienced the program, it turned out not to be hours upon hours of a presentation, but it was a hands-on, enlightening entrepreneurial experience. I learned valuable lessons about business and entrepreneurship from a Harvard-educated expert; I learned what to consider when preparing to pitch a product, how to handle finances when buying or selling a product or company, and I learned about clever marketing strategies that companies use that we as customers probably aren’t aware of. On top of that, we also got to design a prototype for a start-up concept that we were to pitch on the final day. My partner and I designed a concept for a start-up called “Immersive Engine”, where people interested in game development could learn to code with AI/GPT while also seeing their creative ideas come to life. I enjoyed designing the prototype a lot, and it felt good to channel passion and creativity into a project like that. All in all, it was a unique and memorable workshop, and if I were to go back and do it again, I would, which is why I think other people should really consider signing up and trying it out too, and see if they enjoyed the experience as much as I did."
Sexual and Reproductive Health Seminar Opportunity, Years 9 -12
On Friday 12th January we hosted Dr. Emily, Dr. Stephen and Ms. Maizan from the Good Practice Clinic in Jakarta. They had generously agreed to come and provide an optional seminar for our older students, covering topics connected to sexual and reproductive health.
At Global Jaya we hope to provide opportunities for students to learn more about themselves and to provide information that will help our students to make choices that will help to keep them safe.
We welcome the team from Good Practice clinic back to campus on Friday 2nd February in order to share information about puberty.
In addition to working with our year 7 & 8 students, the Good Practice physicians and psychologist will be holding a workshop for parents in order to provide information designed to help parents understand how to navigate puberty from a parenting perspective.
The parent workshop will be held in the MPH between 10.15am - 11,15am. The workshop is open to all parents, regardless of the age of the child.

“Heal yourself in order to be able to build healthy and positive intergenerational relationships”, An SSS Parent Workshop"
Inspired by the book, ‘Adult children of emotionally immature parents’, written by Lindsay Gibson, our SSS team expertly led a two hour long workshop on Thursday January 25th.
Parents in attendance learned about the ways in which ‘immature parenting’ can look and the ways in which this parenting style can influence the child.
Parents were guided to reflect on the way that they were parented, the impact of this parenting approach on their identity development and the way in which these experiences inform the way that they parent their own children.
The counsellors expertly and skilfully constructed a safe space where parents could be vulnerable with one another as they reflected on themselves and learned how to continue to grow in their parenting role.
Thanks to Ibu Ninggar, Ibu Sheila, Ibu Arrunna, Ibu Reni and Ibu Dece for all of their hard work in constructing and delivering this workshop for our parent community.
