In alignment with the "How the World Works" theme, Reception students delved into the fascinating world of colors. Fun and exciting lessons covered Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary colors, providing a foundation in color theory. During science lessons, an engaging walking water experiment was conducted. This experiment aimed to observe color changes in an empty jar and explore the appearance of new colors as they emerge. Students used roses and cabbage to witness these color transformations.
In English lessons, reception students have been actively engaged in mastering the sound 'o'. A delightful and interactive activity involved an owl hunt, where students utilized flashlights to find hidden owls in a darkened classroom. The learning experience was enriched by reading the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" Following the reading, students were asked to use their creativity to create animals not found in the book using playdough while allowing them to choose the colors. This hands-on approach was an integral part of the Unit of Inquiry (UOI), fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. In addition, students were also read the book, Chameleon’s Colors, which will serve as the next step for students to create an environment where their playdough creations could be camouflaged using selected colors. Finally, the students' imaginative animal creations will be compiled into a collective book, extending the learning process.
Students have also been practicing segmenting CVC words by stretching them out. They have mastered the beginning sounds of the words and are now learning about the ending sound of a word.
