Week Without Walls - Bogor

Even after further contemplation, there exists no single word to describe our truly memorable trip experience to Bogor. Comprising a series of super fun, nostalgic team-bonding activities, our week without walls was eventful and fun beyond description. Whether it be through the fascinating places explored or the wonderful people we’ve met along this journey, there were heaps of new knowledge all of us have learned about Bogor - giving us a tiny peek into the wondrous beauty of Indonesian heritage and culture. A single article isn’t enough to truly give you a glimpse into the marvel of our events, but we hope you enjoy reading through our favorite, most highlighted moments within the trip :)

DAY 1 - LEARNING ABOUT BOGOR HERITAGE

To elaborate, our trip lasted three days and two nights. On our first day arriving on-site, we were greeted by the friendly Semut Merah team, who would later be guiding us through the entirety of our Bogor trip. After a delicious lunch provided by the resort, we proceeded to the next activity on our agenda: A Bogor Heritage Scavenger Hunt. Led by the Rambahkota group, we rode Land Rovers and collectively journeyed around several historic sites in Bogor. We visited the Kujang Monument, the Lawang Salapan Dasakreta Terrace, the Bogor City Hall, the Bogor Railway Station, and the Bogor Residency Building. As we arrived in each of the above-stated destinations, we were also taught in greater detail about these historical sites: When were they built? By who? For what reason? Along these descriptions, we came to realize how the stories behind these buildings overlap, as well as their significance in Bogor as a whole.

Apart from this fact, some of the other features that made this activity memorable was the fact that our year level was divided into 6 groups - we were each given clues indicative of the next site to visit. All the groups raced each other to find these locations the quickest, ultimately reigning champion of the Scavenger Hunt activity! As we walked through the Bogor streets, some groups also paused to try out the various treats and beverages local to the region. All in all, it was a wonderful activity, embedded with rich lessons of history and culture.

DAY 2 - VISITING SDN CIKEAS 01

The second day of the Week Without Wall was where all of the CAS focused activities started. Before that, our day started with a light morning exercise together with the Semut Merah team. We did morning stretches as a whole group and even got to play a fun morning game that involves everyone. After the morning routine ended, we got back into the main activities, we were told to regroup with our main group where each of us will then focus on different activities during our visit to SDN Cikeas 01. There are groups which focus on painting, teaching and gardening. During the activities we all worked together to achieve the best possible results for the school. Between our tasks, we also get to take a bunch of photos together with the student and play football with them.

The activities ended with all of us taking a picture with the whole school together and going back to the hotel. When we thought everything was finished, the student from SDN Cikeas decided to follow us back to the hotel, we got to take more pictures together and some of us decided to have a race with each other; which one will arrive at the hotel first. Despite being our CAS experience day, which sounds so related to school and no fun, it was actually one of the most memorable and a very gratifying experience overall. Not only did we get the opportunity to obtain CAS experience, but we also got a pretty good insight on locals around Cikeas.

These were only a few of the abundantly exciting activities we did in Bogor, and the fun we shared amongst our year level was unforgettable. Whether it was a student’s first or fourth time experiencing a WWW trip at Global Jaya, it’s safe to conclude that the trip was memorable for all of us. And for this, we would like to thank our teachers, who have worked extremely hard to give us this special opportunity, and accompanied us all throughout our fun journey.
