Nervously but excitedly reading out their inquiries to the guest speakers is one of the many ways students celebrate learning. The Bookweek allowed Bahasa Indonesia students to interact with guest speakers in one of the two online sessions as part of the secondary Indonesian lessons and Book Week event on Friday, November 4th.
The Group 1 Indonesian Language and Literature students met Okky Madasari, an Indonesian writer whose works voice unresolved issues and satire to authorities. As Year 12 finished reading "Entrok" (Bra) and Year 11 was reading “Pasung Jiwa" (Bound), the session was filled with taboo discussions such as transgender, sexual harassment, authorities, belief systems, Indonesian history, including the Indonesian Communist Party, and others. Moderated by Ibu Tisa, this session allowed more inquiries but unfortunately was limited to time constraints, hence did not allow more students to ask questions prepared beforehand.
Another session was moderated by Pak Agung, hosting Marissa and Asef Ghafoory, former Afghan refugees and assistant to the Indonesian ambassador in Afghanistan. This session was also part of the curriculum, as Year 8 Language and Literature and Proficient students read Sea Prayer by Khaled Hosseini. At the same time, DP Group 2 students' topics also related to the issue of discussions, such as refugee and human rights.
