We are now in our third unit under the transdisciplinary theme of “How the World Works”, we are learning about the causes and effects of natural disasters. In this activity, we basically choose one natural disaster that we want to research and research about it while includings things that we already know. In this activity, we also used teamwork skills because we are divided into groups, and if we want, we can also do it individually.
We also get to make informative posters on the natural disaster that we choose, through this activity, we demonstrated our creative thinking skills. For example, I and my friend, Sammy made an informative poster about what an avalanche is. Some explanations that we did are (for example): an avalanche is a mass of ice, snow, and rocks falling rapidly down a mountainside which causes mass damage. There are often warning signs about where it happens often.
And that is why this activity is full of teamwork, thinking, and creativity skills. Some of our information is in the form of posters that can be viewed here:
To enrich our reading skills in Bahasa Indonesia, we do some activities. One thing that we do is called Program Membaca Bahasa Indonesia. In this activity, we are working in groups. We choose a story then identify it. We choose different roles such as summarizer; has to retell the story, main character identifier, and illustrator; to make a scene from a story, also explaining the characteristic, key concept identifier; identify the concept shown in the story, for example, causation, learner profile identifier; identify the learner profile shown in the story for example caring, thinker, communicator, etc.
We also have a chance to utilize our creative thinking skills by decorating the slides based on the story. We share our work by presenting it to our friends. Through this activity, we get to improve our speaking skills. We also learn to identify the intrinsic elements of a story. We identify the theme, character, plot, setting, point of view, and moral value/message of the story.
When I was doing this work, I felt excited because it was my first time doing it. I got to experience doing new things, also, when we were doing the work, we got to pick different roles every week. Also, while doing this work, we cooperate in groups, so we get to work with different people. Sometimes we get to pick who we want to work with, or we used a wheel of names to choose.
Year 4 has been working on the Pancasila, researching and creating animations or telling others what Pancasila is and examples of how we can implement them in our daily lives. We have been researching about what are examples of the Pancasila and what is the meaning of the Pancasila. We spent all day with the groups finding and searching what the meaning of Pancasila is. Each group needs to search for examples of how we can implement them in our daily lives. We demonstrated our LP (Learner Profile) as thinkers, risk-takers, open-minded, and communicators. How? As proof, we used the LPs that I said above. The first one is how we were thinkers; we always think about how to get the example of Sila. The second one is risk-takers; we risk ourselves to find more ideas . The third one is open-minded because we need to open our minds to the challenge. The fourth one is communicator because we will communicate to our group to find out what is the answer and we need to communicate to ask good question to our teacher. We also demonstrate our ATL skill which is thinking because we always think.
Here are some examples of how we can implement them in our daily lives. The first Sila is Ketuhanan yang Maha Esa, and the example is respecting other religions. The second Sila is Kemanusiaan yang Adil dan Beradab, and the example is helping people in need, like natural disaster victims. The third one is Persatuan Indonesia, and the example is always working together to support Indonesia; by using Indonesia’s products. The fourth one is Kerakyatan yang Dipimpin oleh Hikmat Kebijaksanan dalam Permusyawaratan Perwakilan, and the example is we discuss solutions for anything that needs everyone’s voice. And last but not least, the fifth one is Keadilan Sosial bagi Seluruh Rakyat Indonesia and the example is to be fair to each other.
