We are thankful to our heroes in our lives. We appreciate their effort and sacrifice to make our country a better place. We respect their love and kindness to teach us wholeheartedly. We hug and love them for their unconditional love, who always take care of us and provide us with the things we need, love and care about.
Thank you, heroes.
You are always in our hearts.
In commemoration of Heroes Day 2022, Year 2 students participated in writing a letter to their hero. We proudly present the winners for the competition. The winners from 2A are Tatiana, Alicia and Yijun. From 2B, the winners are Lana, Sungje and Mary. Congratulations!
Do you wonder how people communicated a long time ago, then and now? Year 2 students are learning about how inventions and discoveries can impact the lives of people in different ways. As inquirers and communicators, Year 2 students explored how people use walkie-talkies to communicate nowadays. We invited our security and general affairs staff to share their experiences and knowledge about how to use walkie-talkies as tools for communication in Global Jaya School. Now, Year 2 students have enhanced their skills and knowledge regarding communication tools.
We felt blessed to have Ibu Yohanna as our guest speaker. She has abundant information and historical artefacts to be shared with the Year 2 students. Students explored various inventions from past and present. Students had a great time learning about the telephone, oil lamp, mix tape, charcoal iron, etc. Yayyyy….. We love discoveries, inventions and history; and we appreciate how the inventors invented many practical tools to make our lives easier. Thank you inventors!
We also had another great guest speaker, Pak Nanda. He is our Buddhism teacher who was willing to share information about Candi Borobudur. As part of our art lesson, Pak Nanda explained the history of Candi Borobudur. In the classroom, Year 2 students have started to draw a mini replica of Candi Borobudur with Ibu Primi. We love drawing and knowing the story behind an important part of our history.
As we know, Global Jaya School was established on 16th December 1995. It was a great and proud moment when Dr. Wardiman Djojonegoro, the Minister of Education, signed the plaque of the opening ceremony. There were many historical moments that have happened during 27 years of our schools. Various performances, achievements, activities, community services and changes occurred. Nowadays, Global Jaya school still believes as a great school that provides meaningful learning for all of the school communities.
In addition, Year 2 students observed how the changes happened and shared some ideas about how it would be if we lengthen the timeline into 2022.
Year 2 students were so excited and showed their enthusiasm when exploring different old and traditional games such as congklak, bola bekel, yoyo, gasing, etc.
“We had so much fun!”. In the classroom, we also explored and experienced how an overhead projector was used for presenting work in the past before people used digital presentation slides and modern projectors like nowadays.
Year 2 learned about the timeline in this unit “Where we are in Place and Time”. As part of their learning engagements to introduce the concept of FORM, Year 2 visited the GJS theatre lobby to observe and to learn what a timeline looks like as well as to see how a timeline informs us about historical events. We became more knowledgeable and got to know our school and community better. We could see so many important events that have happened since 1995 up to 2015.
Year 2 were inquirers when they conducted an experiment about making juice with a manual juicer compared with instant powder.
As technologies keep developing, some people change their practices and some keep the same. After we tested it out in the experiment, we shared our perspective in choosing which orange juice we like and why.
Students improved their research skills by testing and analysing the results in the Science experiment.
