With a little help from our friends.
The Year 1 students have been learning to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others. They have been asked to complete tasks with partners and in small groups and this has enabled them to begin to develop many the IB PYP Approaches to Learning.
Social Skills: The students have been developing positive interpersonal relationships by listening closely to others when they are speaking, being respectful to others, sharing materials, taking turns and helping each other to complete their shared goal.
Communication Skills: The students have worked on practicing their listening and speaking skills to ensure they could gather and communicate information. They were able to take turns sharing their ideas and listened actively and respectfully to the ideas of their peers.
Thinking Skills: The students were able to build upon each other’s understanding to develop their ideas. They had to consider the perspectives of others and make group decisions.
Self-management Skills: The students developed their organisation skills by working together to manage their time to complete their tasks effectively. As they were working with others they also had to use strategies to overcome problems that arose, demonstrating tolerance, resilience, perseverance and their ability to negotiate.
