Dear Community Members,
A hard-earned, well-deserved, and most definitely timely break is on the horizon for all the students, faculty and parents of our GJS community, This semester has been simultaneously challenging and rewarding in many ways. Challenging as we have fully re-engaged with life on campus and sought to rediscover habits, activities and engagements that have escaped us over the last two years, all while working and living under the shadow of the ongoing pandemic. Rewarding as we have seen the energy, enthusiasm and spirit rekindled on campus! Through student, faculty and parent participation and support of After-School Activities, Clubs and Sports, Academic competitions like World Scholars Cup, and large-scale efforts like Global Connect 2022 event, Student Council Movie Night, the Book Week and Halloween Parade, 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee performances, HawksCup Tournament and today's Christmas Bazaar, we can say hand on heart, that engagement, excitement, involvement of the community has returned, in force, to GJS.
I am so very proud of our community, our dedication, resilience and can-do spirit. It is that very combination that has made this semester the success that it has been and further lays the foundation for continued success and achievement upon our return in January.
Please enjoy this month's edition of Kontak.
On Saturday, December 10, 2022, the Class of 2002 hosted their 20-year reunion here on the GJS Campus. Students, as well as numerous faculty members, both past and present, enjoyed an afternoon of reconnecting, storytelling, photos and a school tour. Some of the group had not connected with each other since they departed GJS back in 2002. It was an emotional afternoon that demonstrated the importance that GJS played in the lives of these alumni and their teachers.
We look forward to continued reconnecting with our Alumni, both as individual past graduating classes and as an Alumni Association, creating pathways forward that help strengthen the bonds between community members while developing opportunities for recognition, celebration, and partnerships that benefit both the alumni and our current GJS student body.

Over the past year, a dedicated group of GJS students and faculty have explored options for renewing our Year 10 - 12 batik. Our current design was identified as needing an update, modernizing our current yellow batik with a refreshed design that intentionally represents GJS. As a result, this week 3 design samples based on the work of the Uniform Committee have been displayed in the GJS canteen, by the time we return in January, the final 4 samples will be available and on display. The Current Year 9 - 11 students will be polled after the semester break, collecting their feedback, as we seek to identify the new batik that will be launched for use at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
Following our semester break, we invite parents and community members to join me in a Coffee with Pak Cory session on January 18 @ 8:30 am in the GJS Dance room (2nd floor of the GYM). Our topics of discussion and understanding-building will focus on:
1) GJS Structure & Leadership changes - SY 2023-2024
2) WASC/IB process and visitation in April 2023
3) Potential schedule/calendar changes being studied for the SY 2023-2024.
4) Question and Answer session
We hope to see you there.

Faculty and students are back after the semester break, engaging in a full day of classes on Monday, January 16th, 2022. At this time, we do not plan on requesting a negative antigen test result when returning to campus on January 16th, As has been previously communicated, regularly scheduled Rapid Antigen Testing will occur ONLY if PPKM levels return to Level 2 or above. That stated, we ask that all community members stay attentive to the development of any cold or flu-like symptoms by members of their household. Should symptoms develop, we encourage immediate antigen testing and an RT-PCR test following a positive result. In the case of a positive RT-PCR result, please communicate this outcome with us via covidhotline@globaljaya.com.
This is the final newsletter of 2022. We will soon be departing on our winter break; I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Global Jaya Community for what has been an absolutely refreshing and engaging first half of the school year. Our next edition of the Kontak will be issued at the end of January 2023.
On behalf of my family, to every one of yours, may you experience a pleasant semester break. We hope that you spend quality time with the ones you love most, hopefully in a location that allows you full opportunity to relax and enjoy good food and good company to its fullest.
Happy and Safe Holidays,
Cory Carson
