Good morning students, teachers, and GJS staffs members
Today, we gather here to honor a defining moment in our nation’s history: the Indepence Day of Indonesia. It is a day when we reflect on the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs that have molded our nation’s identity.
As we raise the red and white flag, we are reminded of the young hearts and spirited heroes who fought endlessly for our independence. Men and women who stood shoulder to shoulder, united by a common dream of freedom and sovereignty. They faced colonial rule with unwavering bravery, and their legacy continues to inspire us today.
As time goes on, we witness our nation’s progress. From the shores of Sumatra to the farthest island of Papua, Indonesia’s potential to advance is limitless. But, as we celebrate these accomplishments, we must also recognize the challenges that continue to shadow our progress. We have the responsibility to address issues such as poverty, social disparities, and environmental degradation.
We, as Global Jaya students, the future of Indonesia, have the power to create positive change. It is through education and commitment to our passions that we can lead our nation to progression and prosperity.
As student artists, for instance, you stand as guardians to our culture and heritage. Through music, visual arts, film, and theater, you can create works that celebrate Indonesia’s diversity, so that we will always remember to cherish the beauty of our nation.
As student athletes, you personify resilience and teamwork. You can play a role in the fostering of young Indonesian talents that value perseverance, discipline, and hard work – qualities that echo our independence fighters.
As members of the student council or any organization, you are promoting the importance of initiative and leadership. Just like our past leaders that led us to freedom, you can all make a direct impact on the community and uplift those who cannot fight on their own.
Even after Global Jaya, if you choose to study abroad, you will be able to immerse yourself in diverse educational and cultural environments, where you will gain the unique opportunity to bring back valuable knowledge, insights, and global perspectives to Indonesia. Through these exchanges and networking, you can contribute to enriching various sectors in Indonesia, where you turn knowledge into governance–into change.
Our first president, Soekarno, once declared, “give me ten youths, and I will shake the world.” Let these powerful words remind us of our potential. The torch of independence is passed down to us now, and it is up to us to light the path to a brighter tomorrow. So, always strive to become active participants that play a role in enhancing Indonesia.
Happy 78th birthday to Indonesia. Thank you.
