Year 1

Guest Speaker-Ibu Lavesa

Year 1 had the opportunity to have their understanding of our first unit of inquiry.

 “How we organize ourselves” expanded upon by having the Primary School Principal come to year 1 as our special guest speaker. 

Central Idea: Communities make efforts to create systems that meet their needs. 

Lines of Inquiry:

• Rules and routines in different places.

• The impact of rules and routines on a community.

• How systems respond to changing needs.

Ibu Lavesa shared with year 1 her wealth of knowledge on how important rules are in a properly functioning school. She discussed ways to share more effectively and how we must consistently demonstrate kindness to our classmates. Year 1 students displayed new listening skills and communicated their ideas when needed. The entire year 1 learning community was grateful for her contribution.

Playground Walk

Lastly, year 1 went on a playground walk to discuss some unwritten rules that are essential in ensuring that everyone has fun and maintains their safety during our break times. Students demonstrated some actions that should be avoided during our playground times. Year 1 shared their knowledge of how to play safely while still having a great time. Ultimately, our walk helped strengthen our understanding of the importance of playing safely and following rules.
