Most of us have not met each other throughout the two years of IBDP due to the pandemic. In response to the missing days at school, some of the Year 12s have coordinated several events to create a long and lasting memory with each other and commemorate the end of high school in Global Jaya. We are ecstatic to meet each other and have fun as a year-level!
We’re coming close to our final week of school, so we decided to make the annual Senior Week happen. Year 12 students are encouraged to dress up in various exciting themes following the school dress code for a week. Monday is Pajama day, where students are free to wear their pajamas and accessories like pillows, eye masks, and slippers to (finally) rest at school. For Throwback Tuesday, students wear primary or middle school uniforms to reminisce on their younger selves. Students from other schools are allowed to wear their old uniforms. On Wednesdays.. we wear pink! Inspired by the iconic teen movie “Mean Girls,” students cannot wear anything other than pink. On top of that, we are holding a “No Backpack Challenge.” Students must get creative in carrying their belongings without a backpack—for example, bringing a trolley, a bucket, or even a shoebox to school. The last day of school is then reserved for our usual school uniform, but with a white top instead. Students will only bring the yellow uniform since they will use it to replace the yearbook, signing and writing messages with the provided colorful markers. These messages will serve as a reminder and a goodbye to all the fun moments we had in our uniforms.
In PYP-MYP, school camps and field trips were always the highlights of the year! The in-school camp event is another annual Global Jaya tradition for Year 12s, a rite of passage before graduation to spend a night in the place we have worked tirelessly. Since we don’t want to end high school so soon, the Year 12 initiators will be holding this camp from Friday to Saturday, 20-21 May 2022, within the school premises. The event will be filled with fun activities such as movie night, barbecue, an amazing race around the school, and preparations for a senior prank. Students will follow the COVID protocol, as in having a negative antigen test to enter and distancing for all the activities (including sleeping areas!). This camp will be our last chance to reminisce about the school environment with each other.
Graduating high school is an excellent milestone in anyone's life. With these events, the batch of 2022 aims to build a strong connection, relationship and create memories with one another before we leave each other for university.
