Hi! My name is Raynna from 10A. Through my earnest dedication and commitment to the MYP Personal Project, I forged together a project called “Shatter.” Like any project, this one had an end goal — a range of desired outcomes that guided me through the obstacles of this long-anticipated project. My learning goal is to promote the expansion of women in business by sharing the journey of successful female entrepreneurs and exploring the distinct challenges faced by women in this field. This goal was constructed upon my perennial interest in pursuing a career in business and advocating for women empowerment. Through “Shatter,” I was able to launch a podcast. It consists of 4 episodes that last for 20 - 30 minutes. Each episode sees a special guest (a successful businesswoman) who helps me dissect one distinct challenge women face in business. The reason behind my selection of this medium lies in my passion for public speaking. I wanted my product to incorporate me speaking and discussing complex ideas, and I believe that a podcast abundantly fulfills this desire.
Having this opportunity to converse and surround myself with esteemed entrepreneurs allowed me to first-handily discover the true and flawed journey of any successful individual. The long and thorough discussions I had with them encouraged me to pursue my dreams even more as they showed me remarkable ways of tackling challenges. It made me grow as a person by pushing my ambitions a step further and planting more confidence in my life goals. In addition to that, this project also taught me how to become a better communicator. I find it vastly interesting how this project benefited me in various ways. The communication abilities I acquired from this project are highly relevant to the real world, where learnings and milestones are achieved through connections. Being valiant in approaching experts and learning how to network will highly aid me as a student and a future worker.

A challenge I faced in this journey is ensuring that I get all my required work done to high standards while also tackling my other school work. I overcame this by keeping multiple organizational strategies that correlate with each other, such as making a to-do list, setting reminders in my school calendar, and devising a special table for my podcast rundown. This leads to a huge tip for future year 10 students, which is to always stay on top of everything. Rushing your report at the last minute before the draft deadlines, claiming that “you will get back to it later to redo it,” is not a good idea. Trust me, you won’t have time to get back to it. Utilize the time set by the teachers wisely because they are given to you for a reason. Speaking of teachers, do not ever hesitate to ask them for help! No question is too dumb or too insignificant to ask. If you believe that asking it can benefit your progress in any way, best believe your teachers’ doors and email inbox are always open.

Hello, my name is Jonathan and my personal project was about nutrition. I do a lot of exercise, but what I have come to realize is that our diets are as important or if not more important for our health than exercising is. Therefore, during my project my learning goal was to be able to apply proper nutrition based on physical goals and to be able to prepare healthy meals that provide proper nutrition. My product was an Instagram account in which I posted the heathy meals I was preparing and the effects of the diet on my weight. While doing my project I gained lots of new knowledge about nutrition. Specifically, I learned about why macronutrients are important in diets, their benefits, and what foods are rich in these macronutrients and that are good for different types of diets. Learning about all these things and preparing my own meals not only helped me improve my diet, but it also made me more comfortable in the kitchen; I have gotten better at cooking and feel that I am able to prepare myself a healthy and nutritious meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Something that I found interesting was that I learned that diets and healthy meals don’t have to be boring salads and vegetables like I thought it would be. Just with a little bit of research and learning you can find delicious meals that are way healthier than ordering in from restaurants. However, from preparing and cooking my own meals I did encounter some difficulties. During this project was the first time I have actually tried cooking anything by myself. Most times the food turned out to be undercooked or almost burnt, but nevertheless, it was still a fun experience and, with experience, we learn. My advice to the year 9’s is to make a to-do list and every week write down all of your assignments from every class and your personal project, but write them down in order from which assignments are due the soonest. When you do work just go down that list doing whatever is due the soonest and hopefully that helps you stay on top of everything.
Here are two examples of my favorite meals that I prepared:
This is a healthy chicken sandwich with avocado, lettuce, and tomatoes. Good meal to have while trying to lose weight as it was only about 300 calories.
This is a bowl of shrimp noodles. This meal is better for putting on healthy weight as it was upwards of 900 calories.
Hello! My name is Allea from 10C. For my MYP Personal Project, I created a socio-political blog called “From Jakarta to You” My blog contains articles about everything related to socio-political news and issues in Indonesia. My learning goal for this project was to learn more about Indonesian politics. As an international student, sometimes I feel a bit disconnected from my culture and my country as most of my studies are conducted in English. It does seem a bit odd, considering that I am fully Indonesian and I have lived here my entire life. But it was something that I was willing to work on. Learning about politics has definitely made me feel more Indonesian as I am learning more about my country.
Completing the Personal project was a grueling journey, one that was very challenging but also very rewarding in the end. Being able to write this article completely finished with my project has given me a sense of satisfaction like no other. One of the main things that I learned from this project is that doing things that you love always makes the hard work feel less daunting. I was fortunate enough to be able to do this topic for my PP and had so much fun while doing it. I learned a lot of new things both about myself and about politics in Indonesia as a whole.
Throughout the entire process of PP, I only had one main enemy: Time. I know, it does sound super dramatic, but it’s true. In the beginning, the January 31st PP Report deadline seemed so far away. But the days went by quickly, and in no time, multiple deadlines were hanging above all our heads. To solve this, I made sure that I planned my work accordingly and tried my best not to procrastinate. You have to remember that you still have all your other subjects and commitments, don’t forget to balance all your work!
I think that the best advice I can give to future PP students is to always communicate. I asked so many questions to so many people, I thought by the end of the PP, all the teachers would be sick of my questions—they weren’t, of course. Everyone wants to see you succeed, so if you’re struggling, need some reassurance, or even want a fresh pair of eyes for your report, don’t hesitate to ask!

Hi my name is Rayyan and my personal project is about IoTs. IoT is the abbreviation of the internet of things. They are essentially the network of physical objects (things) which are equipped with sensors, software, and other technologies that are used to connect and exchange data with other technologies. This technology is something that I find fascinating and I decided to dig deeper into it to better understand the world of IoTs. My learning goal is to understand the applications and benefits of IoT. As the learning goal is to understand the applications and benefits of IoT for my product I have decided to make a video that explains an IoT system prototype that records the attendance of students in the morning they first arrive at school. From this personal project I learned many new things. This of course included the knowledge of IoTs, the main focus of the project. I was able to achieve the learning goal and able to understand the application and benefits of IoT especially in a school environment. I think as well is that with the personal project I learned more about myself and also learned new skills that help me develop as a person. An example of this is that I decided to take on a programming course and that I improved my communication skills as I interacted with a lot of experts when conducting the personal project. The list goes on as this project was really eye opening and it really helped me to improve on myself. What I find most interesting about the project is the freedom and independence you are given to do this project. A lot of the activities are self initiated and self driven which for me was a completely new experience that I found challenging but fun at the same time. At the same time, for me this was actually also the most challenging aspect about the project. Being able to have that motivation and determination to do work was quite difficult as at the early stages I procrastinated a lot of the work as I underestimated the difficulty of having to think by yourself. At points I felt lost, confused and just didn’t know what to do. However, how I overcame this is by inquiring a lot to my supervisor, referring to the guides and going to Ibu Popy for the concerns I had about my project. This really helped me think critically and made me more confident on making decisions to progress through the project. My advice to year 9s is to make sure to manage your time and stay on top of your work because the majority of this project is actually carried out in your personal time. Make use of organizational tools like mind maps, tables or other methods to help with this. Also make sure to ask a lot of questions to your supervisor or any teacher for feedback or inquiries you have for the personal project. It can really help with your confidence and with their validation it also make sure that you are doing the right things.
