Celebrating Good Times In Year 1
Our final unit of the year is under the transdisciplinary theme of “How we Express Ourselves” with the central idea:
Celebrations and traditions are expressions of shared beliefs and values.
As an introduction, the Year 1 students have immersed themselves in celebrating special events here at Global Jaya school. The celebrations began on Thursday 21st April as the students learnt more about Raden Adjeng Kartini on Hari Kartini. The students discovered who Ibu Kartini was, why we celebrate Hari Kartini and how we celebrate this special day. The Year 1 students were invited to wear free Batik clothing in honour of Ibu Kartini. They also discovered how music, song and dance can be used in celebrations as they learnt and performed the special song ‘Ibu Kita Kartini’.
The following day the celebrations continued as Friday 22nd April was Earth Day. On this day, the students discovered how activities are used in celebrations as they took part in a Primary School planting project organised by the Environment Committee and were then given time to complete their own choice of activity on our Earth Day Choice Board.
In the coming weeks, we will continue our inquiry into local, national and worldwide celebrations and investigate various traditions associated with them. We look forward to our celebration features days where we will learn how Music & Dance; Food; Language; Costume/Clothing; Decorations and Activitites help us to express ourselves during celebrations.
Let the Good Times Roll!
